FUCK this chair. I want to make an office chair out of it, but I can't really bolt a piece of wood on there. My only choice I think is to weld some steel across the rails and then bolt on the base of an office chair to that...
But I no longer have access to a welder. fffuuuuuuuuu
Anyone know someone who can help me in Long Island? Thanks

Be careful welding near that foam. Stop ,drop and roll

Yep! I'd probably just cover up the bottom with some wood or something while welding.

I trust that's a joke, covering the flammable foam with wood? Nice one! If your not joking I'd suggest a very wet towel or leather apron plus an extinguisher because Ferrari, sorry I ment Fire

Can you pull the cushion of the bottom and ran some screws though the bottom or the existing holes and secure the wood that way?

The problem is that it is curved and not flat... so it makes things quite difficult.

The plan is to build my own Ferrari.

Do you need the seat runners? If not it looks like you could remove them(gold/zinc bolts) and make a steel plate or frame that will bolt to those holes and the exciting office chair base. Maybe?

I've always wondered, is it IN Long Island, or ON Long Island?

Soak a towel that you don't care about in water and drape it over the exposed cloth and foam.

Why dont you drill holes and bolt something in?

A few pieces of thick flat bar bolted across to the original mounting points, then a thick flat piece of iron plate bolted to those bars to mount on old office chair base.

Forgive me if I'm wrong about the rails, but it looks like they're straight and flat, yes? Could you not drill and bolt the "adapter plate" for the office chair base onto them?

No, they're way too far apart and drilling into them is a pain cause there is some thicker metal underneath. I tried that already, destroyed 2 drill bits. :P

If I remove the bolts the chair is wobbly as all hell and it somehow needs those rails to stay in place. Also, the bottom of the cushion curves outward so I can't just make something using that.

Yep, the mounting points to the floor are the ones I meant, then you could still use the slides, even tho not really needed, still neat to have functional.
